Not far from Tortoreto, in the Teramo hinterland there are some particular villages, which in addition to being linked to each other for historical and cultural beauty, have given life to a real food and wine itinerary: The Controguerra Wine Route. A path that extends for just over 25 km and crosses the streets of those municipalities that have dedicated themselves to the cultivation of grapes for the production of Controguerra wine: the same Controguerra, Torano Nuovo, Ancarano, Corropoli and Colonnella, all in the Teramo area .

We start from Ancarano located on the south bank of the Tronto river. Very ancient origins that can be admired in the remains of the Ancient Walls and the Fonte del Monsignore, a typical spring from the Roman era.

Continuing along the route, after stopping to admire the characteristic village of Ancarano, after about 10 km of walking you will arrive at  Controguerra , known precisely as the City of Wine for the immensity of vineyards and varieties of good wines produced such as the protagonist of the Strada dei Vini, the Controguerra DOC. This wonderful village is worth a visit, and why not stop for a while to admire its fantastic historic center where fine craftsmanship is still carried out in small characteristic shops.

Finally, the itinerary ends with the beautiful Colonnella also known for its good wine and the green expanses of Montepulciano, Trebbiano and Passerina vineyards. It has a jewel in its historic center full of narrow streets and medieval buildings, the Staircase leading up to the Clock Tower, dating back to the 14th century. In this itinerary there are many villages that follow one another and characterize the Teramo landscape, making it unique and almost frozen in time.
In these towns rich in history and culture, it is possible to taste traditional dishes typical of the Teramo area, such as Ventricina Teramana, the Ravioli Dolci, the very famous Mazzarelle Teramane, typical local rolls made with veal entrails, the traditional fried foods made with chestnuts I Caggionetti and so on … These typical dishes are accompanied by the protagonist of this itinerary, the wine, the Controguerra DOC.
